Knee pain has many possible drivers: patellofemoral irritation, meniscal involvement, ligament sprains, IT band issues, or early arthritis. The same rehab plan rarely works for all of them, which is why we always begin with a thorough assessment.
Modern knee rehab is built around progressive loading. The old 'rest until pain stops, then return to activity' model leaves the surrounding muscles deconditioned and almost guarantees the pain comes back. Instead, we keep you moving with carefully dosed exercise that's challenging enough to drive adaptation but not so heavy that symptoms flare.
Quadriceps strength is the single biggest predictor of knee function — so loaded leg extensions, split squats, and step-ups are usually central. We also pay close attention to hip and ankle mechanics, since both heavily influence how the knee tracks under load.
Whether you're managing arthritis, returning from an ACL or meniscus surgery, or trying to get back to running, our NE Calgary team can build a plan that meets you where you are and progresses you confidently.
